Return visit to Portal AZ, Cave Creek Canyon

April 1, 2019

After a brief stop in Douglas AZ to re-supply, we returned to Cave Creek Canyon for a short visit.  While we're only here for a few days, we volunteered to do some work around the visitors center in exchange for a campsite. All the volunteer sites were occupied so we dry camped in the visitors center parking lot.  As parking lots go, you can beat the views.

The garden at the Ciricahua Desert Museum, about 8 miles from Portal, AZ.

The sun setting over the mountains.

Hiking on the South Fork trail.

Joan said this rock just...called to her.

A well used woodpecker tree.

Another view from South Fork.

After 4 visits to the canyon over the last 2 years, this is the first time it's rained on us here.

Coming next, Silver City, NM
