While at the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center the ranger told us about a campground between Baker City and La Grande, Pilcher Creek Reservoir. Other than the natural beauty of this little campground, the amazing thing is it's free. I had to double check the Websit to confirm it. Oh yeah, we also had cell coverage and over the air TV.
Pilcher Creek Reserivoir
Afternoon walk in an Elk feeding area across from the campground.
On Sunday we decided to take a drive on the Elkhorn Drive Scenic Byway. The route goes from Baker City through the towns of Sumpter and Granite, through the Anthony Lake ski area before passing very near our location. We'd do the route in reverse, climbing into the Elkhorn Mountains first, it's a good thing we did.
Didn't know we'd be driving through the snow.
Our trip came to an abrupt end. The roads hadn't been plowed beyond the ski area!
Our day cut short, we stopped for a short walk in the woods on the way back.
Pilcher Creek Reserivoir ranks as one of our favorite locations, we'll definitely be back.
Views as we were leaving.
Coming next, John Day Fossil Beds Nat'l Monument.
