High winds and a new boondocking spot.

May 7, 2021

Today was supposed to be a travel day but the forecast for our destination, Kingman AZ,  called for 20 - 30 mph winds with gusts to 40. We thought about staying another day at Krazy-K but we'd have to change sites.  If we'd have to move we might as well move down the road a bit.  With a little research we found several boondocking opportunities west of Flagstaff.

Getting an early start (to beat the wind) we arrived at Garland Prairie, north of Wilson AZ, about 9:30am.

Blue dot is our site.

It looks like we're all alone but looking the other way it's obvious this is a very popular location, especially on Mother's day weekend.  Everyone is well spaced and it doesn't feel crowded.

What a difference a few thousand feet makes.  Yesterday the high was 96 in Camp Verde AZ at 3100 ft.  Today at 6800 ft. the high is 74!

The plan is to stay here through the weekend then move on to Nevada.
