We spent a month in Silver City NM, backyard surfing. There was an opportunity to spend the first 2 weeks in May helping with the visitor's center at Cave Creek Canyon (link) in Portal AZ. Portal is 100 miles south-south west of Silver City.
Portal is very remote with no COVID-19 anywhere around. All the Forest Service campgrounds are closed for the pandimic and traffic is very limited. Shortly after arriving we learned the person helping with the last 2 weeks of May wouldn't be coming so we decided to stay the month.
We've volunteered here during April and May in the past. With the Forest Service campgrounds and the visitors center closed, it's pretty quiet. We're manning the "closed" visitors center to answer the phone and take care of a few small projects, 3 hours a day, 2-3 days a week.

With travel still very uncertain, we'll be staying in Cave Creek Canyon at least through June. This will be a new experience for us, since we started traveling we've always stayed in cool weather. We're at 4800 ft and surrounded by mountain cliffs, but it's still southern AZ and 100's are common. "... BUT IT'S A DRY HEAT"... yeah... right! One saving grace, our campsite is mostly shaded.
Here's some pictures from our first month in the canyon...
